Adarsha Mahavidyalaya was established in 1961 under the aegis of Dhamangaon Education Society, one of the oldest educational foundations in the Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra catering to the needs of education from 1914.  Shri Suganchandraji Lunawat donated Rs. 5,600/- for purchasing the land for the construction of the college building.  The present edifice of the college was constructed in 1968 from the donations received from the local businessmen and the traders.

AAIn the year 1975, Birla Education Trust, Pilani and M/s Jairamdas Bhagchand Firm donated Rs. 1 lac each for substantiating the basic infra-structure. Consequently, the college was renamed as Adarsha Science, Jairamdas Bhagchand Arts and Birla Commerce Mahavidyalaya as an esteemed gesture to respectfully acknowledge the munificence of the donors.  Men’s hostel with a capacity of 80 students was constructed in 1972 with the financial assistance from U.G.C. Later on it was further extended to 100. Shri Shrinarayanji Agrawal donated 3 Acre land for the construction of the hostel building.

The aim and spirit of the college, besides imparting quality education, is to cater to the needs of the rural youths in developing their overall personality.  The summer camps organized periodically are instrumental in arousing the spirit of nationality and secularism in them.

In spite of the rural background, the students of this college have proved their merit in the academic programmes time and again. During 1972 to 2012, 39 students have stood in the merit lists of various examinations of the University. The number of the gold and silver medals earned by our students for their academic achievements has reached to 24 and 12 respectively.  The tradition of this academic excellence is preciously old and it continues to sustain till date.

The performance of the students in extramural activities too, is exemplary.  Our students have brought laurels to their alma-mater by winning prizes by their participation in regional, state and national level essay, debate and elocution competitions. The participation of the students every year from 1996 onwards in All India Essay Contest on Nuclear Science and Technology organized by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, Mumbai has become a regular feature.  Till 2010, a total no. of 21 students after initial screening and short listing had the distinction to visit B.A.R.C. 12TH January marks the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a peak of Indian Spiritual Culture and is celebrated with hopeful fervour throughout the country. His concept of spiritual harmony and universalism has been widely acknowledged.  A man of worldly wisdom, he is known for his lasting legacy of inspiration to the youths.  The college has been observing this day as YOUTH DAY since 1994, to be precise, even before the Government of India proclaimed it to do so. With a view to celebrate this occasion, two days event comprising various co-curricular, Cultural and sports’ activities is organized by the cultural department of the college.  The significant feature of this event is the Blood Donation Camp. The students, the staff members and citizens from the town voluntarily present themselves and participate in the sacred cause of blood donation.

The college publishes every year its annual magazine entitled GULMOHOR which provides an opportunity to the students to contribute their articles, poems and other literary arts and writings and thus offers them an opportunity to give vent to their  latent talents and creativity.

The Games’ and Sports’ Department of the college is very active.  It is due to the constant and strenuous efforts and able guidance of the Department that many of the students could excel in various events at University and Inter University levels. The college has a spacious Health Centre equipped with 12 station multi-gym and other fitness gears.  In a short span of time, many students have excelled in Body Building Contests at the local and also at the regional levels.

AAThe college has N.C. C. and N. S. S. Units.  These are always on their toes to serve the Society by participating in AIDS Awareness Programmes, Polio Dose Mission, Blood Donation Camps etc.

Though it is primarily an under graduate college and located in the rural area of Amravati District, our staff members are constantly encouraged for active research.  Many teachers themselves have registered for Ph.D. while some of them are guiding the students for Ph.D.  It needs to be specially mentioned that the Laboratories viz Botany, Microbiology and Electronics are recognized as the Research Centers by the University.

During the XI five year plan, the college has received substantial grants from University Grants Commission for the construction of Auditorium, Gymnasium, Administrative Block, Computer Laboratory and Girls’ Common Room.  These are being effectively utilized.  We are sure that after the completion of these projects, the college campus will have an entirely new look.
